Most coatings give you one layer and call it done. The DIY Detail 8 & 3 Year Kit takes a professional two-stage approach — a long-term base coat topped with a sacrificial top coat — giving your paint maximum depth, gloss, and hydrophobic protection that holds up for years, not months.

What's in the Kit

• DIY Detail 8 Year Ceramic Coating — The foundation layer. Bonds directly to your paint and cures to a hard, glass-like shell that repels water, dirt, and contaminants for up to 8 years. Apply first and allow to cure before topping.
• DIY Detail 3 Year Ceramic Coating — The sacrificial top coat. Applied over the 8 Year base, this layer takes the daily abuse — UV exposure, wash swirls, environmental fallout — while the base coat stays protected underneath. Refreshes the hydrophobic performance and adds an extra layer of gloss.
• Panel Prep — Applied before coating to strip any remaining oils, waxes, or residues from the paint surface. A clean, decontaminated surface is critical for proper coating adhesion — don't skip this step.
• DIY Detail Edgeless Pearl Towel — Used to level the coating after application. The edgeless design prevents panel scratching while the plush microfiber pulls the coating to a uniform, streak-free finish.
• DIY Detail Free Bird 400 — The final buff towel. Ultra-soft 400 GSM microfiber that removes any remaining high spots and brings out the full depth and clarity of the cured coating.

The Application Process

1. Ensure paint is fully decontaminated and paint-corrected if needed
2. Wipe all panels with Panel Prep and allow to flash dry
3. Apply the 8 Year Coating panel by panel — work in a shaded area out of direct sunlight
4. Allow to flash (follow product timing) then level with the Edgeless Pearl Towel
5. Allow the base coat to cure fully before applying the top coat
6. Apply the 3 Year Coating over the cured base coat using the same panel-by-panel method
7. Level and finish with the Free Bird 400 for maximum clarity and gloss
